About us…
The society was formed in 2002 with the aim of “researching studying, recording and/or preserving (when and where possible) the history of the area in and around the village and parish”.
The members also agreed that the society “shall be the forum for promoting the study and understanding of any historical or related subject that members choose”.
Membership is open to everyone with an interest in local history or any matters historical. The society maintains a comprehensive archive to record local history and we are always pleased to receive new items and information to add to the collection.
What we do…
Presentations
Today, we have close to 40 members who meet eight times per year in addition to an open AGM in February. The meetings usually take the form of a presentation for 45 minutes to an hour on a variety of topics, always with a historical theme and usually with a regional link. There’s something for everyone.
We meet on the third Monday of the month (except July, August and December) at 7.30pm in the Brindle Community Hall, Water Street, Brindle, Chorley, PR6 8NW.
The Annual General Meeting is often accompanied by a quiz or the popular ‘Dip into the Archives’ where attendees can inspect many of the articles and artifacts which have been assembled by the society over the years.
General information
In addition, occasional trips out to places of interest may be organised during the year. Such visits often incur a cost in addition to the annual membership fee.
